Finding a job takes hours a day. It's a job itself.

Posted by Till Master on Wednesday, January 30, 2013,
I've been applying online for jobs. Every application takes hours to fill because they are all different with their own different tests to take. And the sad thing is, most of them don't call you back. Imagine when there were no online applications and you had to fax it or mail it in? Then you knew at least someone was touching your paper. Now, there are scanning softwares that scan resumes for recruiters so they can find the right key words without sitting for hours shuffling through papers. ...

Hash House A Go Go is the best breakfast spot in San Diego

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I can't believe the amazing portions Hash House gives you! It's ginormous. We always share a plate with another person when I am here and we still don't finish the plate. The ambiance is amazing but the wait is really long so you either avoid coming in a large party to come here (takes longer to get seated) or come super early!

If you're lucky, you'll get to sit in the patio on a sunny San Diego day.

Bojangles is better than KFC

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I went to Bojangles for the very first time in South Carolina and I've got to say that I think this place has better fried chicken than KFC. I grew up eating KFC so this is a bold statement. I recommend that anyone need to try this if they are in the South! Don't pass it up. It comes in a nice box with cajun fried chicken!

Westin Town Lake in Virginia Beach definitely made it to the top 5 stay list for hotels for me. They are efficient and workers are true professionals! It is also really close to many bars and restaurant and they also have their own bar inside. We were immediately impressed as we stepped in and saw the lobby. See lobby picture below.

Yard House in Virginia Beach, Va - Good stuff!

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
With over 30 beers on tap, this place guarantees selection. I went here for the first time earlier this month on a Saturday night and it was so busy! There was a 2 hour wait for a table of 7 and also many people sitting and standing at the bar to order drinks. It was amazing. This seems like the hot spot for the beach town. I totally recommend it, if you don't mind the large crowd.

Famous Sutton's Drug Store near UNC (they have good burgers!) and it's inside a drug store. What?

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
Have you ever heard of a good sandwich/burger joint inside of a drug store? I know it's weird. If I didn't see it for myself, I would never thought that would work! Sutton's Drug Store is a well known drug store/restaurant in Chapel Hill, NC near the University of North Carolina (UNC) campus where the tar heels roam the land. You've got to try it if you're visiting. They make great burgers. I am very surprised and it does make you feel odd if this is your first time coming here. Look at the p...

Old vintage vending machines

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
It's 2013 and this is my very first time seeing an old fashion vending machine without all the lights and glamour. I actually like this better. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a picture of it. It still works and it's green friendly because it doesn't require electricity.

Homestead Dog Park in Chapel Hill, NC

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
We went to the Homestead Dog Park in Chapel Hill, NC for the first time this month when we were visiting and we were not impressed. We only saw on other dog there and the place was really muddy with a lot of rules. See the sign below for the rules. In San Diego, it is a much more friendly place and many people bring their dogs to the dog park to play and get acquainted with other dogs.

Foggy Road picture when we were on the road

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
Driving in the fog at 6am in the morning isn't your ideal road trip but when you really need to get someplace in a short amount of time, you make sacrifices! Remember to drink coffee.

Trees covered in snow on our roadtrip to the East

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
Now, as a native San Diegan, I don't see snow often so when I saw snowing falling a lot for the first time, I was ecstatic! I was also very intrigued by how the trees looked with snow on top. I must say, it does give me this sense of serenity when I see this. I really do enjoy it, just as long as I don't have drive in the snow often.

Golden Corral instead of Hometown Buffet in North Carolina

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
In North Carolina when I was visiting, Golden Corral was the more popular thing than Hometown Buffet for the area and I went for my very first time at 29 years old. My grandpa in law took me here and it was delicious! I can see why he raves about this place! There is so much food. There is no way you can try everything! They have a nice salad bar, bbq section, chocolate fountain in the dessert section and also an Chinese section with Chinese food. It was unbelievable!

Chicken Pot Pie and Greens are an easy and cheap way to cook!

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I made chicken pot pie and collard greens for lunch today and it probably only all cost me $10 and it fed my husband and I twice! For chicken, I boiled 3 pieces of drumsticks the night before and then used frozen vegetables, canned cream of chicken, milk and some bisquick mix for the rest of the ingredients for the pot piece! It came out great. To make it a healthier meal, I sauteed some collard greens with salt and garlic as a side. My husband loved it!

Collards Greens are popular in the south!

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I just moved to South Carolina from California and I've noticed that they really promote, advertise collard greens in the grocery stores! Everyone eats them regularly here. You'll see them at buffet lines often too. Of course this whole experience is new to me but I do learn to adapt and bought my first bag of collard greens. I've got to say it's a big bunch too. I got this for $1.50!

What I've noticed with collard greens compared to my usual greens like napa cabbage and spinach is that they ...

Piggly Wiggly, Grocery Stores in South Carolina - My first experience

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I am so impressed by my first trip to Piggly Wiggly in Florence, SC. Everyone is so friendly who works there and they send us coupons in the mail for free items to shop there. I am from California and we don't have Piggly Wigglys there so I was very amused by a name of a grocery store named this. I will tell you that I favor this over Food Lion, even though Food Lion is closer!

First time going to the indoor Florence Mall in Florence, SC

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I went to the mall in Florence, SC for the first time a few days ago and for a little town, I was really impressed. It's a indoor mall so the weather can be crappy outside, but you can still come inside in the warm indoors to shop. There is also a lot of restaurants inside and outside near the area. If you are just passing by the city or staying for the night. Stay near the mall. See all hotels in Florence, SC.

Things from the South that I don't see in Southern California

Posted by Till Master on Thursday, January 24, 2013,
There is so much about the South that fascinates me. So far, for the 3 weeks I've lived in the South, these are things I noticed that the South has a lot that West Coasters don't typically see:

Everyone calls me "ma'am"
Grits
Country ham
BBQ
Cafeteria
Piggy Wiggly
Food Lion
Bojangles

Being from the West Coast and marrying with in laws from the East Coast

Posted by Till Master on Thursday, January 24, 2013,
Being born and raised in San Diego was such a gift. I was very oblivious to how great we had it compare to East Coast weather, people and the days when American was born. I did learn a lot about American history since I was in elementary school but because DC, Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas were so far away from California, I couldn't relate as well and picture in my head how fascinating history really is until I moved to the East Coast, where my husband's family is from.

All around are ...

Moving from San Diego, Ca to South Carolina

Posted by Till Master on Monday, January 21, 2013,
My sailor and I recently moved to South Carolina from San Diego, Ca and I tell you, sometimes you will find bad weather, impatience, and being tired from the car ride, delaying your trip. It took us 5.5 days and that's because we slept every night and never drove more than 10 hours a day.

We also had a dog with us so we always make sure to walk him when we're also ready to make a stop as well.

Before you start your trip, make sure you pack a working flashlight, 2 warm blankets in case hotels ar...
