My older son is really into Minecraft so I decided to surprise him with Minecraft themed decorations for his birthday party. A few of the things that I did myself included creating a centerpiece using a cardboard box and a plastic green tablecloth and drew Creeper's face on it with a permanent black pen. I also placed a green square cake that I baked on top of this centerpiece.
For party favors, I created a pretend TNT dynamite using 2 chalks and wrapped them with red wrapping paper and a TNT ... Continue reading ...

Waiting for your blinds to get in can take awhile so using temporary shades is a great way to get privacy for your family until you're ready to put in permanent blinds. This is budget-friendly, family-friendly and a great temporary solution.
I got these Redi Shade temporary blinds from Bed, Bath & Beyond but you can buy them from Lowe's, Home Depot or online on Amazon too. If you buy the Redi Shades on Amazon, getting them in bulk is cheaper versus buying one at a time. These require no tools t... Continue reading ...

This blog post is a year overdue! I created a Yule log or what I refer to as a "log cake" last year. I took plenty of pictures and video clips and didn't post any of it until now! The holiday season for me last year was so busy! Tis' the season!
Here's a log cake that I made that is perfect for fall and holiday parties.
This year, I'm able to catch my breath a bit. The video on how to make a log cake is below (scroll down just a bit). Basic things that I used were: spice cake mix, vanilla frost... Continue reading ...

I like to keep boxes around the house because I always end up using them for storage or shipping something to a friend. I don't want to buy boxes when I can reuse the ones that I get from getting things shipped to me. My husband thinks that I'm weird that I hoard these boxes but they really come into great use!
I got creative one day and realized I needed an end table for our bedroom near my closet. I didn't want to go out and buy one and I recently got a sturdy cardboard boxed in the mail. I... Continue reading ...

I recently got a new office with a real estate company and they provided me with a desk, cabinet, and guest chairs but I needed an office chair for myself. I have an old office chair from home but the vinyl on the arm chairs are worn out. Everything else looked fine. I decided to save money and just cover the arm chairs.
I went to Joann's to look for some materials and decided on getting a piece of black felt from the store and using the bond glue I already I had at home. It costs me $.25. If... Continue reading ...

I am visiting a good friend soon and wanted to bring something local from South Carolina and give it to her when I see her so I decided to make my own little gift basket that is presentable and plane-friendly. I used a cardboard box that I had at home and wrapped it in brown paper to cover the exising print on the box. Then I used tissue paper to keep the 3 items I have in place inside the box. I made sure I wrapped each item with some sort of clear wrap to keep the products fresh then I wra... Continue reading ...

Hi guys,
We did it! We got married and the grand ceremony and reception were exceptionally successful!
One week before our out of towners were starting to arrive, I created welcome bags with printing labels at home and stuck them on brown gift bags with tissue paper.
In the welcome bags, I had a bottle of iced tea, a bottle of Powerade, some snacks like oreos, trail mix, Cheez-It and granola bars to make their stay more comfortable.
I tried to decorate the bags with a splash of my wedding colo... Continue reading ...
