My son is 11 months old with 6 teeth and I am still breastfeeding

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Wednesday, January 14, 2015,
I can't believe I have been able to breastfeed my son for this long. It is the best gift. The benefits of his own mother's milk is undeniable. Because it has antibodies (unlike formula), my son's immune system is great and he hasn't gotten really sick yet! Knock on wood! Also, because mother's milk is organic, it's easy on his stomach and easily digestible. I can list about 10 more benefits but then this will really drag on. Today I am celebrating 11 months of being able to breastfeed my son....

Eating ice cream while nursing

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, December 16, 2014,
I've been craving a lot of ice cream lately. I have mint chocolate chip from Edy's and coffee flavor from Prestige in the freezer right now. Usually I don't eat much ice cream. Maybe only when I am out at the mall or at a restaurant on a rare occasion. However, lately I've been craving it and I wonder if it's my body telling me that I need more fat content to feed the baby?

My baby son is now 10 months old and I am still breastfeeding. He's been thinning out in the last couple of months becaus...

Grand Bohemiam Hotel in Asheville - Very Impressive

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, November 30, 2014,
My husband took me and my son to Asheville, NC for the first time for our 2 year wedding anniversary celebration. I've heard so much about Asheville and about the Biltmore Estate. When we went there, everything exceeded my expectations, especially our hotel stay at the Grand Bohemiam Hotel near the historic village. He bought the Romance package which included a massage, breakfast and champagne for two so I felt like a queen for a day!

Here are some pictures from our trip. It was very family ...

I broke my Droid phone today by accidentally running it over

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, July 28, 2014,
Thank God I had Google Picasa back up on my phone for the last few months because I accidentally ran over my phone with husband's truck today. I dropped it without knowing it and ran over it while I was backing out of the parking lot. What if I didn't set up that account before I did that? All of my photos would have been gone forever. I really suggest you all make sure you activate your Google Picasa account so that it links to your Google account if you have an Android phone. All of the pho...

Nursing Cover Review - Use PROMO code 4132E9 to get for Free

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, July 27, 2014, In : Motherhood
I was tired of using a blanket or towel to cover my baby and me when we had to stop somewhere to nurse the baby at a gas station so I needed something light and breathe-able without worrying about someone see me nurse. Initially I thought I could make it myself but who was I kidding? I had the promo code for a free nursing cover with having to pay a 11.95 fee for shipping and handling. I'm bringing it with me on the plane for my baby's first plane ride. See my review below. You can use PROMO ...

World of Coca Cola in Atlanta, Georgia was a wonderful experience

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, June 15, 2014,
When we went to the World of Coca Cola in Atlanta, Georgia, it became the highlight of my entire 4 day, 3 night stay! It felt like Disneyland. With the Coca Cola theme song playing in the background at all times, it really makes you realize what an amazing brand Coca Cola has been for over 100 years. There's so much nostalgia value. You learn the history and the invention of Cola Cola, how it turned into a big business and how it is now an international brand. You also get to try 65 flavors. ...

3 Things I Wish Someone Told Me About the First Months for a Baby

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, June 8, 2014, In : Motherhood
As a first time mother of a 4 month old baby, I've learned so many things about taking care of a baby. However, there are certain things I wish I knew so I could make a better decisions about some of these things early on.
1. Flat Heads
Every reading source and and health professional would tell me to put my baby on his back to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). What they didn't tell me is that this can cause flat heads. I noticed my baby started getting a flat side on the back of hi...

I think my baby is allergic to Johnson & Johnson Shampoo with rashes

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, May 4, 2014,
My baby is 11 weeks old. For the last month and a half, my baby has been suffering from rashes on his face on and off. It would get better and then worse again. We've been using 1% hydrocortisone and vaseline and it's been helping with clearing it and then recently I noticed that after I give him a bath, he starts rubbing his eyes a lot. We've been using Johnson & Johnson Shampoo every other bath or so. It says it's gentle on the eyes but does it cause irritation after?

My baby would only hav...

Using Vitamin E Oil to help with baby's dried eyelids and rubbing

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Thursday, April 24, 2014, In : Motherhood
My newborn is 2 months and 3 weeks old and he has been consistently rubbing his eyelids. He rubs his left one more than his right so his left one is really swollen and red. It doesn't look as bad if he doesn't rub it for awhile but then it gets swollen again once he rubs it. I've tried putting petroleum jelly on his eyelids to see if that helps heal it faster but I think his constant rubbing is preventing it from getting better.

This morning I tried something different and swaddled him while ...

Once a full time worker, now a stay at home mother

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, In : Motherhood
When I was 21, I had no idea if I was ever going to get married or when I was going to have kids. I was a senior in college, finishing my last semesters for my bachelor degree and just started discovering alcohol. I graduated at 22 with my degree and started working full time right away. I realized quickly that working full time is so overrated. We go to school striving to get good grades and work hard for a degree and now I'm at an office working 9-5 and living for the weekend.

10 simple things that is now a luxury for a breastfeeding mother

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Thursday, April 3, 2014, In : Motherhood
It seems like nowadays, breastfeeding and pumping are consuming most of my time. Ever since I had mastitis (see older blog post), I have been religiously pumping every 3-5 hours (depending on how much my son fed from my breasts) so that I don't get too engorged and feel pain again. Between diaper changes, feeding, comforting the baby when it's fussy time, bath time and comforting him to sleep, pumping is my #1 priority for any free time I have. Here are the things I miss since giving birth to...

How many breastfeeding mothers get mastitis?

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, In : Motherhood
Happy Aoril Fool's Day! A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about mastitis and how I was admitted to ER for this painful infection in my right boob. Well, I thought about it some more today and wondered how many breast feeders get mastitis? Is it a high percentage? I tried to look for a study on that but couldn't locate it.

The hospital gave me antibiotics to treat it and it went away a few days after  but how did people treat it pre-antibiotic days? Did a lot of mothers die from it?

I'm glad I'm ...

I've come to realized that Breastfeeding is a full time job

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, March 29, 2014,
One side of one of my breasts is extremely plugged right now and it is very hard in this area. I feel at least 5 bumps in there so my ducts in that area are plugged. I have no idea how to unplug it and I've been sitting with my pump to try to empty that breast the for the last hour. My baby is napping right now so I can't directly feed him at the moment because it's a much needed rest for him. I've come to the conclusion that breastfeeding is a full time job in itself (in order to make sure w...

Wish past breastfeeders could've warned me about Mastitis when breastfeeding

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, March 16, 2014,
I was 5 weeks postpartum when I went to the ER a week ago because my right boob was hurting so bad and I was having chills and fevers up to 103 degrees. It was a Saturday and my husband called my OB/GYN office in the afternoon that day to see if we can get a doctor to prescribe me some medicine instead of going into ER. He called twice and there was no response from a doctor so we rushed to the emergency room to ensure my fever doesn't get worse after my last reading was 103 degrees. My assum...

Breast Pumps Comparison: Medela vs. Ameda Double Pumps

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, March 1, 2014, In : Motherhood
I am currently nursing my 22 day old newborn and own 2 different types of breast pumps. To ensure that I get a continuous supply of breast milk for my baby, I try to pump every 3 hours for 15 minutes.

At first I started out with the Medela Advanced Pump In Style. It's quiet, has a lot of accessories available at many stores and many moms like it. Then, I started using the Ameda brand with their Purely Yours double pump a few days later because it was free with my husband's insurance after giv...

Amount of breastmilk I am producing - from less than 1 oz to now over 5 oz

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, In : Motherhood
When I first started pumping my breast milk, my first 15 min session produced under 1 oz and that's including both breasts! On the 3rd day after I gave birth was when I started pumping to get more milk coming. Now, 15 days later, I am finally producing over 5 oz. What a difference and relief! I'm finally making a surplus for my baby.

We are no longer supplementing my baby's diet with formula.

Feeling like I was sexual abused by my lactation consultant

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, February 22, 2014, In : Motherhood
While I was pregnant with my son, I decided that I was going to breastfeed instead of using formula since so many medical professionals highly encouraged it. When my son was born, he latched onto my breasts right away and I felt like we had a good thing going on. On the second day, I got worried because his lips were getting really dry and that made me think I was not producing enough liquids from my breasts. We decided to see a lactation consultant the next day.

I'm not sure if it's because o...

Best part about having a leftover turkey is making sandwiches the next day

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, December 28, 2013, In : food
I didn't have to roast a turkey for Thanksgiving because we went to my mother in law's house and my cousin in law's house for 2 Thanksgiving dinners during November. So I decided to roast the turkey at home on Christmas Day.

This year, Christmas is wonderfully quiet because I'm 8 months pregnant and not advised to travel. Plus, my husband has to work overtime so we had 2 great excuses to not have to drive far to see family. I love seeing family but after such a busy Thanksgiving week, this pr...

Moving from the West Coast to the South (East Coast)

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, December 2, 2013,
Sometimes I can't believe that I am living in the South now. Earlier this year, I moved from San Diego, California to a suburb town of South Carolina. The population of this small town is about 45,000 people.

For the first 3 months living here, I felt like I was living in a movie. Everyone has a Southern accent and most of the residents here are very religious. There is a church on almost every block.

Today, I am very used to the slower lifestyle here and appreciate the Southern accent that i...

Washington DC trip was fun - Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial are a must see

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, In : Washington DC
We went to Washington DC in October and even though it was a bit chilly and cloudy, it didn't rain so we were able to do some touristy stuff while we were in the area for a wedding.

I definitely recommend going to the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall since they are right next to each other.

Do it yourself Gift Basket from local goods

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, September 16, 2013, In : DIY
I am visiting a good friend soon and wanted to bring something local from South Carolina and give it to her when I see her so I decided to make my own little gift basket that is presentable and plane-friendly.  I used a cardboard box that I had at home and wrapped it in brown paper to cover the exising print on the box. Then I used tissue paper to keep the 3 items I have in place inside the box. I made sure I wrapped each item with some sort of clear wrap to keep the products fresh then I wra...

I'm of Vietnamese descent and I was born with double eyelids okay?

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, July 6, 2013,

A couple of years ago, my coworker asked me if I had something done to my eyes to get double eyelids. I was so shocked that she asked me that?!!! No one has ever asked me such a weird question about my looks before so I was caught by surprise, especially in a work setting. I was like "No, do people do that?"

She said "yea, a lot of Asians do it". I thought maybe she was being racist but the other times, she's really nice to me so I try to brush it off and can't blame her for being ignorant if ...

My experience as a Bachelor's degree grad, enrolling to get my Associate's

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, In : school

I am planning on going back to school to get an associate's degree and since I already have my bachelor's degree, I figured enrolling into a technical college and getting accepted into any associate's program of my choice would be piece of cake, considering a bachelor's degree is a higher degree than an associate's. You would think that right? I thought that. In actuality, I think I have more headaches enrolling into a technical college for an associate's degree than I did as a high school st...

I think I'm one month pregnant...symptoms of a pregnant person

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, June 17, 2013, In : Motherhood
The first time I realized that maybe I was pregnant was when I was getting continuous vaginal cramping but without having a period. I've noticed I'm more fatigued and my 2 mile jog is not as easy as before.

After taking 3 pregnancy tests with positives results, I'm not going to be skeptical anymore. Gosh, this reminds me of the movie "Knocked Up" except I'm married to loving husband already. My doctor ordered an ultrasound for me, which I think is too early. I went to get my ultrasound appoint...

Advantages and Disadvantages for being a housewife without kids

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, May 5, 2013,
I've been a housewife for the last 3.5 months and realized that there are many advantages and disadvantages for being a housewife without kids. We've been married for 6 months now and after my husband left the military when his term was over, we moved across country 4 months ago for a new adventure for his new job as a civilian. I had to leave my job behind as well.

At first I was scared about being home with just our dog while my husband was at work. I overcame that fear and it helps to have...

Wearing wedding ring on the left hand and wearing engagement ring on the right hand or both on one hand?

Posted by SailorGirlfriend.com on Saturday, May 4, 2013, In : Wedding
Recently, I've been pondering about wearing my wedding ring on my left hand and wearing my engagement ring on my right hand. I'm trying to think if anyone else has done that. Most of my friends and colleagues wear both their wedding ring and engagement ring on the left ring finger. I've been doing this for the last 6 months (since I got married) as well. However, I feel like my engagement ring looks better by itself. It also reminds me of when he proposed and that was a great time. My rings m...

Flowers in Real Seashells as table centerpieces goes great with a beach theme

Posted by Till Master on Sunday, March 3, 2013,
Having a beach theme wedding is very appropriate when your wedding is by the water, literally. Instead of having a high centerpiece, where it's hard to talk to the person right across from you at dinner, have a small centerpiece that matches the theme. With your matching flowers inside the seashell, it will still wow the guests and make them comfortable to look around the room. Ask if your florist can do this. This was on a bar table but they were also on the dinner tables with 3 candles surr...

Bride with tattoo is "Just like a tattoo, I'll always love you."

Posted by Till Master on Friday, February 8, 2013,
I always respect a bride who doesn't let her tattoos affect her beautiful wedding dress decision. It's a part of you now, so don't go out of your way to hide it. Your make up artist and friends might ask you if you're covering them with make up or not. Don't let that bother you. A lot of people are still trying in their mind to conform to certain standards. There shouldn't be a standard you need to follow for your wedding day. It is your day. See below of picture of a bride with tattoo. All t...

Hash House A Go Go is the best breakfast spot in San Diego

I can't believe the amazing portions Hash House gives you! It's ginormous. We always share a plate with another person when I am here and we still don't finish the plate. The ambiance is amazing but the wait is really long so you either avoid coming in a large party to come here (takes longer to get seated) or come super early!

If you're lucky, you'll get to sit in the patio on a sunny San Diego day.

Chicken Pot Pie and Greens are an easy and cheap way to cook!

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I made chicken pot pie and collard greens for lunch today and it probably only all cost me $10 and it fed my husband and I twice! For chicken, I boiled 3 pieces of drumsticks the night before and then used frozen vegetables, canned cream of chicken, milk and some bisquick mix for the rest of the ingredients for the pot piece! It came out great. To make it a healthier meal, I sauteed some collard greens with salt and garlic as a side. My husband loved it!

Being from the West Coast and marrying with in laws from the East Coast

Posted by Till Master on Thursday, January 24, 2013,
Being born and raised in San Diego was such a gift. I was very oblivious to how great we had it compare to East Coast weather, people and the days when American was born. I did learn a lot about American history since I was in elementary school but because DC, Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas were so far away from California, I couldn't relate as well and picture in my head how fascinating history really is until I moved to the East Coast, where my husband's family is from.

My bridemaids planned the best bachelorette party weekend for me!

I truly have the best friends ever! My bachelorette party just happened over the weekend from Aug. 24- 26, 2012.

I told my bridal party that I'd be happy with just a slumber party for my bachelorette party and they turned it into a full weekend. They refused to let me pay for anything and booked at a high end hotel called Hotel Del Coronado for 3 days and 2 nights. They decorated the room, surprised me to yoga on the beach with a hired instructor and rented a limo to take me to a nightclub on...
