Diaper Cake for Baby Girls

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, November 3, 2015,
I made a diaper cake for the 2nd time and this time it is for a baby girl. I wanted to send a small congratulations gift to my friend in California after she just gave birth. Here is how it looks like.

Contents include: a pair of Espirit pink baby shoes (6-12 months), 3 bibs from Juicy Couture, 4 receiving blankets and 16 Size 1 Swaddler diapers.

Unfortunately, when my friend received this package, everything was unraveled so I suggest that you bind everything tightly and put a lot of bubble ...

David's Bridal Wedding Gown Preservation Kit Review

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Wednesday, April 8, 2015,
Finally after two years from my wedding day, I've decided it's time to finally wash and preserve my wedding gown! I know it's gross that I didn't get it dry-cleaned right after my wedding, but it wasn't that dirty and I didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars of getting it dry-cleaned when I can do that with David's Bridal for cheaper (plus get it preserved at the same time)!

Usually, I would go online and check out David's Bridal website to see if there are any specials. They are usually $189...

My son is 11 months old with 6 teeth and I am still breastfeeding

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Wednesday, January 14, 2015,
I can't believe I have been able to breastfeed my son for this long. It is the best gift. The benefits of his own mother's milk is undeniable. Because it has antibodies (unlike formula), my son's immune system is great and he hasn't gotten really sick yet! Knock on wood! Also, because mother's milk is organic, it's easy on his stomach and easily digestible. I can list about 10 more benefits but then this will really drag on. Today I am celebrating 11 months of being able to breastfeed my son....

View of downtown Charlotte from our Hyatt Place City Center hotel room

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, January 13, 2015,
Last month, we stayed at the Hyatt Place City Center in downtown Charlotte, NC for a night and it was a really great hotel. I was really impressed with its location and the rooftop restaurant in the building. This seems to be a higher end Hyatt Place, very comparable to a Hyatt Regency. I recommend staying here if you're looking for a place to stay with luxury in downtown Charlotte. It is also less than a mile from the Bank of America Stadium where the Carolina Panthers play football. The vie...

3 Things I Wish Someone Told Me About the First Months for a Baby

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, June 8, 2014, In : Motherhood
As a first time mother of a 4 month old baby, I've learned so many things about taking care of a baby. However, there are certain things I wish I knew so I could make a better decisions about some of these things early on.
1. Flat Heads
Every reading source and and health professional would tell me to put my baby on his back to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). What they didn't tell me is that this can cause flat heads. I noticed my baby started getting a flat side on the back of hi...

How to remove the extra space on your watch band video

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, In : DIY
I recently bought a watch for the first time in many years. I haven't worn a watch since high school. I forgot that usually the band is too big for me so instead of going to a shop to get it fixed, I decided to buy a home kit for $8 online and do it myself. Here is a video of how I removed the extra space on my watch band for the first time below:

How many breastfeeding mothers get mastitis?

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, In : Motherhood
Happy Aoril Fool's Day! A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about mastitis and how I was admitted to ER for this painful infection in my right boob. Well, I thought about it some more today and wondered how many breast feeders get mastitis? Is it a high percentage? I tried to look for a study on that but couldn't locate it.

The hospital gave me antibiotics to treat it and it went away a few days after  but how did people treat it pre-antibiotic days? Did a lot of mothers die from it?

I'm glad I'm ...

Wish past breastfeeders could've warned me about Mastitis when breastfeeding

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, March 16, 2014,
I was 5 weeks postpartum when I went to the ER a week ago because my right boob was hurting so bad and I was having chills and fevers up to 103 degrees. It was a Saturday and my husband called my OB/GYN office in the afternoon that day to see if we can get a doctor to prescribe me some medicine instead of going into ER. He called twice and there was no response from a doctor so we rushed to the emergency room to ensure my fever doesn't get worse after my last reading was 103 degrees. My assum...

Dealing with Post Partum after Childbirth

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Thursday, February 20, 2014, In : pregnancy
It's been 13 days since I gave birth to my beautiful son and I'm dealing with postpartum. I've been crying a lot and we've had a lot of visitors and their dogs come stay at our house to meet the baby. We've also recently did a 2.5 hour road trip each way for 2 days so other family members can meet the baby as well. All of this on top of healing physically and emotionally has been hard. The baby is not even 2 weeks old yet.

Am I being too nice to let so many visitors come and see our baby, dis...

I always get sleepy within 30 minutes after taking my prenatal vitamins

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, January 18, 2014, In : pregnancy
I was prescribed prenatal vitamins after the doctor confirmed that I was pregnant in June. It has folic acid which is supposed to be really good for expectant mothers. For some reason, I always get really tired and sleepy after I take them. I started taking them every day at the beginning and I would just get so tired, I couldn't do anything else but sleep. However, every time I would forget to pop one in my mouth, I wouldn't be tired that day. Then, I started to just switch off every other d...

Unemployment Benefits if you Quit Your Job as a Military Wife due to Relocation

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, January 13, 2014,
When I moved from California to South Carolina due to my husband's contract with the navy ending and he found a new job in a different state, I had to quit my job. After sadly turning in my resignation letter after 6 years of working for the company and taking a couple of weeks to move, someone asked me if I had put in my unemployment claim because I was a military wife.

I didn't think I was eligible because I voluntarily quit. But because I had to quit due to my military spouse's job situati...

Thankful for my husband wanting to go to all prenatal doctor visits

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Tuesday, December 31, 2013,
I am 33 weeks and 6 days pregnant and am getting closer to hitting full term. For the last couple of months, I've been going to my ob/gyn office every 2 weeks (which is normal at this stage) and pretty soon, I'll have to bump it up to once a week.

My husband has been very supportive and always wants to go to my doctor visits with me. It's reassuring to him as well, to see the ultrasounds, hear the heart beats and making sure I'm healthy and nothing is wrong, directly from the doctors themselv...

Loving your husband so much

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Saturday, December 28, 2013,
Sometimes I am so overwhelmed by how much I love my husband. He's the person I live for and the reason why I want to live for as long as I can. I fear death because I fear losing him. I love being around him and am so blessed to have him in my life as my partner.

I really appreciate my husband a lot. He works long hours for his job and spends every waking moment with me and thinks of me so much. We've been married for 13 months now and I feel our love just continues to grow as we grow up toge...

When maternity pants are all long at the store, having a sewing machine is so handy

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Sunday, November 3, 2013, In : Motherhood

Weight Gain and Maternity Clothes

At 25 weeks, 2 days I weighed 126 lbs. Before I got pregnant, I was 120 lbs so this was the first significant weight gain since I've been pregnant. I will grow more rapidly soon. I bought my first pair of stretchy pants from Ross around this time because none of my jeans fit anymore.

It was alterations time because all of the pants in the maternity section are long and I am a short woman. I recently learned how to sew last month in October and in the last 4 we...

Do it yourself Gift Basket from local goods

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Monday, September 16, 2013, In : DIY
I am visiting a good friend soon and wanted to bring something local from South Carolina and give it to her when I see her so I decided to make my own little gift basket that is presentable and plane-friendly.  I used a cardboard box that I had at home and wrapped it in brown paper to cover the exising print on the box. Then I used tissue paper to keep the 3 items I have in place inside the box. I made sure I wrapped each item with some sort of clear wrap to keep the products fresh then I wra...

I took a pregnancy test today and I have double lines

Posted by sailorgirlfriend.com on Thursday, June 6, 2013, In : Motherhood
I was supposed to have my period earlier this month but I only saw a bit of faint blood, not enough where I needed to wear a pad. A couple of days later, I still had nothing but I decided to take a pregnancy test and I got double lines.
I like how this one shows what two lines mean and what one line means right on the stick. It's easier to determine the results. My first thought was, "oh my gosh, this has never happened before". I just bought another pregnancy test pack see if I'll get the sa...

Cooking with stuffed squid is creative and delicious

Posted by SailorGirlfriend.com on Wednesday, May 29, 2013,
My parents were originally from Vietnam so I grow up in America eating a lot of Vietnamese food. One of the dishes my mom would make is "muc don thit" which is stuffed squid. She usually uses ground pork as stuffing. For this dish, I used ground chicken that I found at Food Lion. I also added some smoked sausages in the dish to give it a bit of spice. The squids look cute all stuffed up. Although some may not like squid, it's very delicious once you get used to the texture. We usually use too...

My parents are visiting my husband and me next month but I don't want them to.

Posted by Sailorgirlfriend.com on Thursday, March 14, 2013,
My parents want to visit my husband and me next month and stay for a week but I really don't want them to. We recently moved to the East Coast from California after we got married so we've lived in our new home for 2 months now. We got married four months ago so we're newlyweds.

I hinted to my mom that she should just stay for 5 days because it'll get boring but she insists that they stay for a week. Seriously, when I was living in California, I only see her for half a day once a week because ...

Finding a job takes hours a day. It's a job itself.

Posted by Till Master on Wednesday, January 30, 2013,
I've been applying online for jobs. Every application takes hours to fill because they are all different with their own different tests to take. And the sad thing is, most of them don't call you back. Imagine when there were no online applications and you had to fax it or mail it in? Then you knew at least someone was touching your paper. Now, there are scanning softwares that scan resumes for recruiters so they can find the right key words without sitting for hours shuffling through papers. ...

Collards Greens are popular in the south!

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, January 29, 2013,
I just moved to South Carolina from California and I've noticed that they really promote, advertise collard greens in the grocery stores! Everyone eats them regularly here. You'll see them at buffet lines often too. Of course this whole experience is new to me but I do learn to adapt and bought my first bag of collard greens. I've got to say it's a big bunch too. I got this for $1.50!

What I've noticed with collard greens compared to my usual greens like napa cabbage and spinach is that they ...

Things from the South that I don't see in Southern California

There is so much about the South that fascinates me. So far, for the 3 weeks I've lived in the South, these are things I noticed that the South has a lot that West Coasters don't typically see:

Everyone calls me "ma'am"
Grits
Country ham
BBQ
Cafeteria
Piggy Wiggly
Food Lion

Rehearsal Dinner invitations

Posted by Till Master - Sailor Girlfriend on Tuesday, December 11, 2012,
I made two different versions for my rehearsal dinner invitations. The ones for the bridal party also include the rehearsal time and place of the rehearsal along with dinner. Whereas, the ones that were mailed to just out of town guests (not part of bridal party and do not need to attend rehearsal) get a simpler piece.

Here is my wedding party rehearsal dinner invitations. We used our engagement photos to spruce it up! Actual size is 3 times bigger than the image below.

Picture of bride with tattoo - Flaunt it, don't hide it.

Posted by Till Master on Friday, November 16, 2012,
Who says it's not proper to show your tattoo on your wedding day? It's part of who you are now so don't cover it in make-up. You can see my tattoo peeking out of chest in this dance with dance. Luckily, my family never asked if I was going to cover my tattoo because they are loving and understanding like that. Don't let anyone give you a hard time about this.

Stressed out Bride-to-be - How to cope

Posted by Till Master on Thursday, October 4, 2012,
I am at the one month mark before my wedding takes place and I am so stressed out.

I have contacted all of my vendors (either called or emailed them) for the last three days to confirm when they'll be at my wedding site and am finishing up last projects in the next week.

My last projects include having my last hair trial, decorating party favors and completing seating chart/guest list for place cards.

Here's how I'm coping with my stress with now.

I'm turning into my mom.

Posted by Till Master on Wednesday, October 3, 2012,
While I am planning this wedding with my mom, I realized there are some things we don't agree on and then there are others that we completely agree on that no one seems to.

I've decided to put my hair up for my wedding because it's more elegant and my mom agreed. I also told her I don't want to wear necklaces and just big earrings and she told me she likes to do that too. She doesn't like to wear necklaces.

Wow. I am turning into my mom. Are you?

I learned a new word: Cummerbund (Cumberbund) and picture of what it is

Posted by Till Master on Tuesday, August 14, 2012,
My fiance is looking for his tuxedo for the wedding and we've settled on a bowtie and cumberbund for his al fit instead of wearing a vest. This is the very first time I've heard of the word cumberbund and it's quite a fun word. If you want to know how it looks like, see image of the one I took. He's not wearing suspenders with his al fit, just a bowtie and cumberbund. I think it's actually spelt like cummerbund. The guy wear it around the waist.

Having a fiance waiting for me at home

Posted by Till Master on Monday, June 4, 2012,
A week ago, I started shacking up with my fiance. We found an apartment together and he moved into the place first, a week ahead of me and then I move in just this past weekend. This is the very first time I'm moving in with a guy lover. It's great so far. We save money on gas and time on planning because we live in the same home. It's a one bedroom one bathroom duplex and we have a shared yard space for our dog and the neighbor's dog.

The only thing I can complain is I'm a bit afraid of the ...

One year with Sailor Boyfriend

I have a boyfriend who I've been with for over a year and I just love him so much. He is a "nuke", which is what the Navy calls sailors who work with nuclear power.

I am so proud of him and I feel like a lot of my friends who don't have a military boyfriend cannot relate to the pride that I feel for him.

This website is dedicated all of the girllfriends, fiances and wives of sailors who serve for our country. If you would like to share your story and have me publish here in this blog, feel fre...
